  • 1915: The British Cunard passenger liner Lusitania is torpedoed by the German U-boat U-20 off of Ireland. 177 American passengers are among the fatalities, creating national rage against Germany in the Great War.
  • 1932: Phi Psi Hop held. Document from this event is preserved in a scrapbook by Cadet William Fletcher Welch, of Clio, South Carolina, class of 1925, now in Special Collections at the Strom Thurmond Institute.
