Samurai Express, "Japanese Cuisine - American Delivery", is the latest eatery to unsuccessfully attempt to operate in the irregularly-shaped space next door to TD's on the Old Greenville Highway, directly across from Mell Hall. Opened in the fall semester of 2011 in the space that had previously been Finn's Grill, the business offered dine-in, carry-out and delivery of Japanese appetizers, salads, combos, entrees, and rice bowls. The menu offered chicken, shrimp, and steak, as well as vegetarian choices. "We only use certified Angus filet steak & chicken breast," stated an advert distributed in the Clemson area.

A few dessert items were also carried (banana fosters, brownies), and beverages ran to fountain and bottled drinks, non-alcoholic. A $5.99 lunch special was offered - hibachi or chicken teriyaki rice bowl and a fountain drink.

It would not last. By the first week of March 2012, the interior was being repainted and by mid-month a new sign adverting the Sweet Grass Diner had been posted stating that a new business is coming. Good luck!
