Starbucks
And so, inevitably, comes Starbucks to Clemson. The Seattle-based chain of upscale coffee is constructing a store on the southwest corner of College Avenue and Tiger Boulevard where once stood a procession of gas stations. The last gas and go mart folded when its Anderson-based owners failed to pay their Pickens County taxes. It stood moribund for a year until the coffee chain began construction on the site in the fall of 2007. The last gas station was razed in the summer.
Site preparation was underway in October and the cinderblock structure was well underway in mid November. It is unclear when the store will open.
