May 17 in Clemson History

  • 1919: Clemson wraps up its baseball season with a 1-0 win over the SC Gamecocks in Columbia. The Tigers swept the 2 game series, as they also blanked SC 4-0 the previous day. It was Edward Donohue's final game as coach of the Tigers.
  • 1942: The Corps of Cadets observe Armed Forces Day on Bowman Field. Wylene Pool is chosen as the female honorary corps commander or honorary cadet colonel.   • 1954: The United States District Court for the District of Kansas rules that school segregation on the basis of race is illegal, in decision on the case of Brown v. the Board of Education.
