Willie Underwood # 20, was a defensive back for Clemson. After playing for 47 games for the Tigers, and during the final game of his career, Willie caught his first and second career interceptions against the University of South Carolina for a combined total of 101 yards. One of his interceptions was returned 37-yards for a touchdown to cement Clemson's 27-6 victory. It is still the most interception return yards in a single game by a Tiger. Underwood racked up 17 tackles in the game and went on to be named National Defensive Player of the Week by Sports Illustrated.

  • The game against the Gamecocks marked the first time Clemson wore orange pants. Danny Ford has credited Jeff Davis and Willie Underwood as coming up with the idea for the orange pants.
