Dewey Barefield is the Variety Test Coordinator at Clemson University in the Department of Entomology, Soils, and Crop Sciences; Division of Agronomy.

Family

Happily Married to Virginia Matthews and father of Aaron Barefield and Sasha Aaron, Dewey resides in the rural area of Sunset beneath the trees in a house he built with his own two hands.

Service

Dewey is a Lifetime Member of Langdale United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he still finds ways to serve the community. Dewey has volunteered on the School Improvement Committee at Holly Springs Elementary School, has received the 100+ Hours Award for Trout Stream Improvement from Trout Unlimited, and has served as an Executive Committee Member for the Charities Fundraiser of the Spittoono Music Festival.

He has been involved in The Boy Scouts of America, Troop 37, as a Pickens District volunteer for nearly 15 years. He has also served as Committee Chairman for Venture Crew 2037 and Assistant Scoutmaster to National Jamboree Troop 1512. Dewey is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, serving as Advisor to Chief of Indian Affairs and participating on the OA Dixie Committee. On the District Level, Dewey has served as a trainer, Unit Commissioner, and Roundtable Commissioner. He has been awarded the Pickens District Award of Merit, was a member of Wood Badge ticket SR-031, and has worked long hours on improvement projects at Camp Old Indian. Clearly, Scouting is his passion! Dewey devotes countless hours each year to both youth and council activities.

He has made over 200 parachute jumps including four HALO jumps.
