Dr. Randy Collins joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University in 1989 and is an Associate Professor. He holds a BSEE from North Carolina State University and a PhD in EE from Georgia Tech. Dr. Collins is a multiple winner of the department's teaching awards and received an outstanding teaching award from the IEEE in 1997. Dr. Collins is an active member of several IEEE societies, and has served in various leadership capacities in the local IEEE section. He is also an active continuing education instructor, and routinely teaches short courses to practicing engineers on electrical engineering subjects and review courses for the PE exam.

Most recently, Dr. Collins has focused his research on power quality, specifically on the impact of electric power system disturbances on industrial process equipment. His research specializations include power electronics, electric machines, and adjustable speed motor drives. He has written numerous articles and made many presentations on power quality topics, and has twice been awarded with prize paper awards for his efforts. He is an active member of several committees writing international standards for power quality.

Dr. Collins is a registered professional engineer in South Carolina and is an active ATP-rated pilot and flight instructor. When not working at the university, he can often be found enjoying the view from his 1947 Cessna 120, or instructing a student in a Clemson University Flying Club aircraft.
