Political Science Department

Director, Calhoun Honors College, 1991-present. Develop and administer educational programs, formulate academic policies, organize cultural enrichment activities for 1150 student members; work with deans and department chairs to expand and improve General Honors and Departmental Honors programs; recruit faculty to teach honors courses and supervise honors research projects; oversee development of interdisciplinary Calhoun Honors Seminars; supervise five-person office staff; oversee Dixon Fellows Program of out-of-class educational enrichment for potential fellowship candidates; manage student research grant program; plan and coordinate Fall Honors Convocation and President’s Honors Colloquium; serve as institutional representative to various fellowships (Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Fulbright and Goldwater); chair fellowship nomination and endorsement committees; plan and coordinate fall and spring honors awards ceremonies; serve as institutional representative to National Collegiate Honors Council and National Association of Fellowship Advisors; chair Calhoun Honors College Committee (15-member policy-making body); assist with planning of annual research forum for graduate students and honors students; coordinate program advancement and fundraising strategies with Office of Development.

Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Clemson University, 1991-present. Coordinate recruitment and admission strategies and programs with Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and academic units; assist with National Scholars Program (Clemson University’s premier merit scholarship; member of steering committee and chair of selection committee); represent Division of Undergraduate Studies at Board of Visitors receptions; Conduct orientation sessions for new students; member of Academic Council, Undergraduate Council, Scholarships and Awards Committee. Acting Assistant Dean, College of Liberal Arts, Clemson University, 1990-91. Chaired college Admissions Committee; college representative to University Continuing Enrollment Committee, Admissions Appeals Committee and Academic Council; adjudicated grade protests and academic grievances; managed student academic transactions, including approval of transfer credits, grade changes, course substitutions, change of major; conducted summer freshman orientation programs; edited Liberal Arts newsletter.

Director, Liberal Arts Advisement Center, Clemson University, 1988-91. Provided academic advisement to ~300 undecided/undeclared students; coordinated college-wide academic advising activities and programs, including PROACT program for students on academic probation; assisted in development of computerized Degree Progess Report; coordinated college recruiting programs (e.g., “Orange Carpet Weekend,�? Discover Clemson (for promising minority students), campus visits of Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics).
