Flip Flops was the latest bar incarnation of the space on Old Greenville Highway opposite Lower Fike Field that was previously operated as the Fiesta Mexican Grill. Opened in the fall of 2009, the spare open interior featured Mardi Gras-type slushy drunks with names like "Jet Fuel". A modest bar menu was offered.

From the web: "Flip Flops is a full service bar/restruant [sic] that features a wall of frozen drinks. Similar to the 'Fat Tuesday's' chain with a Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville vibe. Locations in Atlanta, Columbus, Auburn, - From the owner."

Flip Flops featured live music on occasion and played host to Greek parties, as well. WSBF-FM hosted a live show by Charleston band, Chronicles of the Land Squid, there in March 2010.

American Express, Mastercard, Visa and cash accepted.

Closed Sunday-Monday.

Closure

Although the management had considered plans for soundproofing the building to avoid disturbing the adjacent residential neighborhood, these plans would not see fruition as the business shut its doors in May 2010. It was infamous for allowing underage drinking.

It is being reopened as the Friar's Tavern on August 30, 2010.
