SHINE, Inc. is the organization that provides Pickens County's only soup kitchen operation. The name stands for "Stopping Hunger in Nearby Easley" and was founded in Easley, South Carolina in July 2004. In the year 2005, over 9,600 meals were served, and in 2006 that number rose to over 10,000, an increase of ten percent. By 2007, the operation has served over 19,000 meals. Pickens County has a population of 113,575 and a poverty level of 11.5 percent.

SHINE has a foundation Board consisting of 13 dedicated volunteer members who meet each month to keep details ongoing. More than 150 volunteers donate time to operate SHINE. The organization has approximately 25-30 kitchen managers, who oversee the planning of the menu, preparation of the food and then the cleanup. Other volunteers pick up food, raise funding for the project, contribute food products and other jobs that need to be done on a weekly basis.

Operating Monday-Friday, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., at the Simpson Academy, located at 200 West D Avenue, Easley, with mailing address at 1027 S. Pendleton Street, Suite B, Box 214, Easley, S.C. 29642. SHINE is a 501(c)3 organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
