Events on September 29 in Clemson's History

  • 1915: Drill held. Football practice held. (The Tiger, "Weekly Calendar'", Tuesday 28 September 1915, Volume XI, Number 2, page 2.)
  • 1923: Clemson opens season at home on Riggs Field against Auburn. It is also Homecoming, and fans watch a 0-0 tie. Admission is $2. One such ticket is preserved in a scrapbook by Robert Jackson McCarley, Jr., of Columbia, now in Special Collections at the Strom Thurmond Institute.
  • 1928: Clemson beats Davidson, 6-0, at home.
  • 1930: Picture shown in the YMCA auditorium is is RKO Radio Pictures' "Midnight Mystery", starring Betty Compson and Lowell Sherman, released June 1, 1930. Screen writers are Beulah Marie Dix and Howard Irving Young. Dix was co-author of play A Rose O' Plymouth Town, a romantic comedy in four acts, given by the Clemson Senior Class in celebration of the Pilgrim Tercentenary, 1620-1920, in the College Chapel (Tillman Auditorium) on November 27, 1920.
  • 1951: The Tigers play night game away at Rice, winning, 20-14.
  • 1956: Clemson ties number ninteenth-ranked Florida, 20-20, in a road game.
  • 1961: First formal dance of the fall, the "Rat Hop", is held with the Blue Notes providing the music. New dance sensation, The Twist, is seen on campus for the first time. Miss Dia Bettencourt, of Savannah, Georgia, is selected Rat Queen. The Phi Kapps, a singing quartet of Phi Kappa Delta fraternity also sing with the Blue Notes on some numbers. (TAPS 1962, page 34.)
  • 1962: Tigers get a 7-0 win over N.C. State in Raleigh.
  • 1984: The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sting the Tigers, 28-21, at Grant Field, thanks to five Tiger turn-overs. The Tigers acquit themselves well in the second half when they tie the score at 21, but the Jackets ultimately prevail.
  • September 26, 1995-September 30, 1995: The Clemson Players present The Illusion by Tony Kushner in the Bellamy Theatre, Brooks Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m with an additional 2:30 p.m. performance on September 30. Admission is $6 for the general public, $4 for youth and senior citizens, and $2 for Clemson students.
  • 2005 - The School of Nursing receives full accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) through 2010.
  • 2007: September 29-September 30 - The Clemson Players present Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre in the Bellamy Theatre of the Brooks Center at 8 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, general seating.
  • 2008: Help Clemson win the Battle of the Bands. The real deal has started! The video is up and the voting has begun! This time its for the win guys; let's show the nation what Tiger Band is all about! If you've been holding off on inviting your friends, now's the time! Let's get going right out of the gate! And you keep in mind, you can vote again after 12pm ET. Let's get it done Tiger Band and Tiger Band supporters! We're after the 25 grand! Contest ends 5 October. Unfortunately, LSU wins the money.
