The Book Cellar

The Book Cellar was a now defunct used book store located on the ground floor at 101 Earle Street in the 1970s and 1980s. It was owned and operated by Mike Campbell and advertised used paperback books and adult magazines. An advert in The Tiger states that "We...have a large selection of romances, mysteries, historical novels, westerns, gothics, self-help books, spy novels, psychology books, science fiction, religious books, and many others. Thousands and thousands of used paperback books at 1/2 the original cover price or less. Many new releases in stock at 10% off the cover price. Trade-ins accepted on used books." (The Tiger, 4 April 1980, Volume 73, Number 23, page 2.) For a time in the early 1980s, he also sold bottles of "Rush". With student apartments located upstairs, a mere stone's throw from the side door of the Tiger Town Tavern, this building saw many interesting activities. Eventually, the management of T3 purchased the 101 Earle Street property, as is, where is, and it now serves a Tigertown outbuilding.

Update: After November 9, 2009, this address no longer exists as it was razed this date by a Caterpillar 320C excavator.
