The Valley, Inc. was a short-lived private nightspot located in the Langston Plaza shopping center on the Old Greenville Highway. Opened in the fall of 2009 in the former location of CVS Drugs, the night club touted itself as a dance club and sports bar and offered Karaoke on Wednesday nights from 8 p.m. to midnight, hosted by DJ Ty Buchanan.
A promotional card distributed just after it opened stated that it had 8,000 square feet of space, a 69-foot bar, 6 pool tables, a huge dance floor, leather sofas, drink specials all week, $1 draft beer every night and shot specials. It also promised pool tournaments and Xbox tournaments, although it seems unlikely that these ever got off the ground. The promo card also promised free memberships for the months of January and February.
It never really gained popularity, a $10 cover charge serving to discourage casual drop-ins. Although it promoted itself as available for private party needs, at least one hip-hop show scheduled by WSBF-FM in the late fall was cancelled due to questions about insurance.
The owner, Steven Hodge, apparently also neglected to pay the rent as the Civil Court in Greenville, South Carolina, awarded lessor Bi-Lo, LLC. of Greenville both an involuntary ejection order and a seizure of personal property order, dated July 12, 2010 for a claim of $29,021.36 plus $50 in court fees. (Civil Case No. 2010CV3910300173) The tenant was ordered to vacate the premises by 7:30 a.m. on July 15, 2010, and to return any property removed from the premises in the previous 30 days.
As of early October 2010, the space was available for lease. Old posters and signs that the credit card machine was not operable (no mystery why, there!) were visible inside, as were a few forlorn bottles of liquor on the bar.
