The Tiger Belles were a group of "27 spirited coeds" who served as sports "hostesses", as founded by basketball Coach Tates Locke in 1971, borrowing an idea from Miami (Ohio) University. The first year's crop was appointed after try-outs and interviews beginning in the fall of 1971.

The 1983 TAPS noted that Tiger Belles aids the basketball recruiting program. "This group of female students actively participate in recruiting prospective basketball players by introducing the recruits to the campus and the academic program." (Page 241.)

The group no longer exists.
