Y Beach

Y Beach is the popular name for the former YMCA Recreation Area (now operated by Clemson Outdoor Education), with lakefront on the west bank of Lake Hartwell across from the Clemson main campus and sports practice fields. For many years in the 1970's and 1980's, it was the site of the annual April University Union-sponsored Bengal Ball. The Y Barn on the site has been used for dances, concerts, barbecues and other events, including at least one Weird Party.

It was created on the edge of the diversion channel that was dug through a hill in the late 1950's and early 1960's as part of the Hartwell Dam project to save Clemson's lower campus, stadium, and research bottom lands from inundation when the lake began filling in 1962.
