Fred Shilstone

Frederick William Shilstone, was a Professor of English at Clemson from 1974 until his death in 2005. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Vanderbilt University in 1970 and his Master of Arts degree there in 1972. Dr. Shilstone earned his PhD in 1974 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

He taught British Romanticism, Environmental Literature, and sophomore lit sections after coming to Clemson in 1974. He died August 23, 2005, and was buried in Ramsey Creek Preserve, Westminster.

From Manfred, a dramatic poem by his favourite poet, Lord Byron: "Old man! 'Tis not so difficult to die!"
